Public Libraries in Jakarta Temporarily Closed

Jakarta Library and Archive Agency (Dispusip) temporarily closed public libraries at provincial and city administration levels during Micro-Scale Public Activity Restrictions (Micro PPKM) extension period in Jakarta. Libraries are closed from June 22 until further notice.

Library services still can be accessed by public through iJakarta application

Jakarta Dispusip Head, Wahyu Haryadi conveyed, this policy was implemented to follow up Jakarta Gubernatorial Decree No. 796/2021 on Micro PPKM Extension.

"Libraries are temporarily closed due to surge in positive COVID-19 cases in the last few days," he explained, Monday (6/28).

Cultivating Reading Habit, Dispusip Promotes Baca Jakarta Movement

According to him, library as an institution that manages community intellectual works which is visited by many people should follow government's policies in order to break the chain of COVID-19 transmission.

"We want to minimize movement of people who have potential to increase COVID-19 transmission. For this reason, we cannot carry out face-to-face library services until an undetermined period," he mentioned.

But, he added, library services still can be accessed by public through iJakarta application which can be downloaded through Google Play Store for Android users or through website ijakarta.id.

The iJakarta is a digital library application which allows users to access books that can be read online or offline at any time.

"Through this application, users can find book they want to read. They can also interact with other users, provide book recommendations, and even write reviews related to the books they read," he said.
